Orange County Register reported on a class action lawsuit filed by Richard Bridgford and Michael Artinian on behalf of homeowners in the Talega community in San Clemente.
“Pinhole leaks develop over a period of years,” attorney Richard Bridgford said. “They are a ticking time bomb in the wall.”
The lawsuit filed on August 27 in Orange County Superior Court is against Standard Pacific Homes, also naming Talega Associates as an affiliate of Standard Pacific. The suit seeks damages yet to be determined on behalf of Talega homeowners Michael and Shannon Gieselman.
Bridgford and Artinian told the Register they have filed 12 similar cases against developers in Ladera Ranch of which two have been settled and two cases in Yorba Linda.
“In Talega, potentially over 3,000 homeowners are affected,” Bridgford said.
In recent weeks, an Orange County Superior Court judge dismissed a lawsuit filed by homeowners and a developer against three water districts that blamed chemicals in the water for corroding copper pipes. The case involved chloramines. Judge Thierry P. Colaw ruled that the water districts¹ use of chemicals can’t be held liable since the districts followed state and federal standards for safe drinking water.
“It’s the developers’ responsibility to install pipe that will work no matter what water there is,” Bridgford said.
