Richard and Susan Bridgford, esteemed supporters of the University of California, Irvine School of Law (UCI Law), have generously established an endowed scholarship to benefit law students. Their commitment of $1.35 million encompasses both an estate gift and immediate funds, ensuring that the scholarship can be awarded promptly to deserving students.
Richard Bridgford, a founding partner of Bridgford, Gleason & Artinian LLP, has been deeply involved with UCI Law for many years. Serving as chair of the Law School’s Board of Visitors since 2019, he and his firm have contributed over $2 million to the institution. Their support has extended to general scholarships, the Linda Ray Bridgford Endowed Scholarship established in 2020, the Initiative for Inclusive Civil Justice, and the UCI Law Fund. Beyond financial contributions, Bridgford’s firm has provided practical experience to UCI Law students and undergraduates by involving them in significant cases, including mass-shooting class actions, wildfire litigation, and wrongful death suits.
UCI Law Dean and Chancellor’s Professor of Law, Austen Parrish, expressed profound gratitude for the Bridgfords’ generosity, stating, “Their establishment of this endowed scholarship will help reduce the cost of education for our students.” Richard Bridgford emphasized the importance of legal education, noting, “We consider nothing to be more important to the future of our democracy and our nation than the education of this generation of attorneys.”
The Bridgfords’ philanthropic efforts extend beyond UCI Law. They have been actively involved with organizations such as the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. Their dedication to community service was recognized in 2009 when they were honored by National Philanthropy Day Orange County for their remarkable volunteerism and generosity.
The establishment of the Richard and Susan Bridgford Endowed Scholarship marks a significant milestone in supporting the next generation of legal professionals. Their unwavering commitment to legal education and community service continues to inspire and pave the way for future leaders in the legal profession.
